Biomass promises to be a major source of energy in the decades to come.
Why Biomass? Fossil fuels like petroleum and coal
won't last forever, and they can't be regenerated. Biomass (power
generated from natural, regenerative substances such as wood) is the energy
of the future. We supply imported biomass fuel to plants across
the European Union. Working by exclusive arrangement
with growers of high quality timber in the United States, we connect
energy users with source producers. A typical contract provides a retail store chain or electric
power plant with over 100,000 metric tons of wood pellets per year, and often twice that much.
In many countries, biomass is an effective way to meet compliance with the
environmentally-friendly Kyoto Accords governing permitted carbon dioxide emissions from consumption of fossil fuels.
The Right Source Despite the increasing popularity
and necessity of biomass, it is sometimes difficult for users to find reliable
sources. It's not just a question of finding forests (Russia, the United States
and Canada are full of them), but of manufacturing pellets of a high quality. Many timber sources are already committed
to the wood pulp and paper industries, while some lack the capacity required
by pellet producers. If you're reading this, you probably know that
few European timber sources are even available, and the few functional ones lack the high, unpolluted quality of pine required in biomass-powered generators. While pellets are often made from torba, a plant that grows in cold climates, ours are exclusively American pine and spruce.
Forest Conservation It is not generally known that in
certain regions (such as the American state of South Carolina) timber is the primary crop harvested, and an important source of income for the local
economy. It is important to purchase timber products from ethical companies
which support active reforestation and environmental programs. Certain protected
natural forests should remain forever wild, perpetually undisturbed and
supportive of native wildlife, while others may be harvested and replanted
as part of a pragmatic arboriculture and conservation program. That's important if we're to
use our natural resources intelligently, without destroying entire ecosystems.
(This has occurred in certain parts of Europe, such as Spain and southern
Italy, and it's a terrible consequence of our exploitation of natural resources.)
We only work with timber suppliers who adhere to these ethical
principles.
Product Quality and Composition Specifications for 6 millimeter diameter premium grade wood pellets are:
Net Kcal. 4400 minimum
Moisture - less than 10%
Ash content plus inert 1% content max
Fines 0.5% max
Sodium less than 300 ppm.
Color - "clear" non-polluted virgin wood
Nitrogen 0.45% max
Chlorine 0.05% max
Alkali 0.25% max
Source - Pine, spruce, some hardwood.
Your composition requirements may differ (8 mm diameter pellets are also available). Chemical analysis indicates that pine supplied by our harvesters is a pure product that burns clean, having exceptionally low sodium, potassium, sulfur and chlorine levels. We can provide a certified chemical analysis on request.
The minimum term for most contracts is two years with a yield of about 300,000 tons, though
requirements vary from one user to another. Established users often have
their own dry bulk carrier arrangements for transatlantic shipping, but
we can assist here as well.
Working With Us We prefer to deal directly with
end users rather than brokers, but where necessary contracts in European
(EU and Swiss) and American jurisdiction can be signed to ensure that brokers
earn their commissions (finder's fees). Whether you're a timber supplier interested in selling your product in the growing European market, or represent a firm seeking to buy pellets, we want to hear from you!
