Our wood chips, made from American pine and spruce, find their way into all kinds of industries: lumber and wood products, paper making, energy generation. A typical contract provides an electric power plant with over 100,000 green metric tons of wood chips per year, and often twice that much.
The Right Source Despite the continuing necessity of timber sources, especially in regions where unpolluted trees cannot be harvested or where arboriculture simply is not possible, it is sometimes difficult for users to find reliable suppliers. It's not just a question of finding forests (Russia, the United States and Canada are full of them), but of connecting with the right timber harvesters, who have wood available for sale. Many timber sources are already committed
to the wood pulp and paper industries, while some lack adequate capacity. If you're reading this, you probably know that few European timber sources are even available, and the few which exist lack the high-quality, unpolluted quality of pine required by specific industries or even by biomass-powered generators.
Forest Conservation It is not generally known that in
certain regions (such as the American state of South Carolina) timber is the primary crop harvested, and an important source of income for the local
economy. It is important to purchase timber products from ethical companies
which support active reforestation and environmental programs. Certain protected
natural forests should remain forever wild, perpetually undisturbed and
supportive of native wildlife, while others may be harvested and replanted
as part of a pragmatic conservation program. That's important if we're to
use our natural resources intelligently, without destroying entire ecosystems.
(This has occurred in certain parts of Europe, such as Spain and southern
Italy, and it's a terrible consequence of our exploitation of natural resources.) We only work with timber suppliers who adhere to these ethical
principles.
Product Quality and Composition From the standpoint of physics and chemistry, biomass energy generation is fairly simple. For fuel generation,
the typical mix required is about 70% clean wood chips, allowing as much
as 30% bark (or 25% bark and 5% clean shavings), with a moisture level lower than 40%.
That's the target product for the typical plant, but your composition requirements
may differ. Chemical analysis indicates that pine supplied by our harvesters
is a pure product that burns clean, having exceptionally low sodium, potassium,
sulfur and chlorine levels. We can provide chemical analysis on request.
Certain suppliers are represented exclusively by us, and the minimum term
for most contracts is two years with a yield of about 300,000 tons, though
requirements vary from one user to another. Established users often have
their own dry bulk carrier arrangements for transatlantic shipping, but
we can assist here as well.
We can also provide wood chips without bark.
Working With Us We prefer to deal directly with
end users rather than brokers, but where necessary contracts in European
(EU and Swiss) and American jurisdiction can be signed to ensure that brokers
earn their commissions (finder's fees). Whether you're an American timber supplier interested in selling your product in the growing European market, or a European power company manager seeking to purchase wood chips or pellets, we want to hear from you!
